At Amplify, we know that most people will go to great lengths to avoid switching financial institutions – even when they know it’s in their best financial interest to do so. That’s why we’ve made the process of transferring money to your Amplify account as painless as possible. In this article, we’ll walk you through several tools we offer to transfer money or update your direct deposits.

Key Takeaways:

  • To move money to Amplify from another financial institution online, connect to your external bank(s) in online banking and/or update your direct deposits.
  • You can connect individual bank accounts to Amplify through instant verification or micro-deposit transfers in online banking.
  • You can transfer your direct deposits either manually or using ClickSWITCH, our automated account-switching tool.
  • You can also transfer funds in-person at any Amplify branch.

Why is it important to fund my Amplify account?

When we launched fee-free banking in 2022, our goal was to make it so our members would never have to worry about a bank fee ever again. Our fee-free banking and complimentary overdraft services make Amplify the perfect partner for your day-to-day spending.

How do I transfer money from my other bank accounts to Amplify?

The quickest way to move money from an external bank account is to connect that account to Amplify within online banking. If you have not created an account in online banking, you can do so following the steps outlined here. Otherwise, click on the following pieces:

  • Click on Transactions in the online banking menu. This will open a dropdown list of account options.
  • Click on Manage External Accounts.

You will then be presented with two ways to connect to an external account.

Option 1: Instant Verification

Amplify uses a financial service called Plaid to instantly verify your bank account. Plaid is trusted by over 12,000 financial institutions across the country, including nationwide banks such as Bank of America, Citibank, Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank, Chase Bank, and more. You can learn more about Plaid here.

  • Click the Link via Instant Verification button.
  • Click Continue to begin the verification process.
  • Search for and select your current bank. You may also be asked to select an account type.
  • Click Continue to login to log into your current bank.

Once you authenticate your current bank through Plaid, you will be able to start transferring your funds from that bank to Amplify immediately.

Option 2: Micro-Deposits

If your current bank is not included among Plaid’s clients, you can also verify your account through a series of micro-deposit transfers. This option uses your Routing Number and Account Number to authenticate money transfers between two accounts.

  • Click the Link via Micro-Deposits button.
  • Enter the Routing Number and Account Number of your current bank.
  • Click Checking or Savings as the account type.
  • Click Submit.

You will be asked to verify these micro-deposit transactions in 1-3 business days, at which point your current bank will be added as an external account in Amplify.

How do I change my direct deposits to Amplify?

Just like our account transfer tools, we offer both automated and manual options to switch your direct deposits to your new Amplify account.

Option 1: Manual Direct Deposit Change

Once your account has been created, you can update your direct deposits directly with your employer by sending them the account and routing number of your new account. For payments handled through third-party platforms like Venmo or PayPal, you will also want to log into each account and manually update the bank information on file.

Option 2: Automated Change with ClickSWITCH

Amplify also offers automated account switching services with ClickSWITCH, an automated payment tool. Once you verify your contact information in ClickSWITCH, the service will automatically find and transfer your recurring transactions on your behalf.

Once in online banking, follow the steps below:

  • Click on Switch to Amplify to open the dropdown menu.
  • Click on Switch Direct Deposits.
  • Click the Switch Direct Deposits button.
  • Click Enter Direct Deposit Details or Use Switch Assist to begin the process.

Follow the steps throughout the rest of the process to finalize the transfers. Your ClickSWITCH verification should only take a matter of minutes, and most direct deposits will be rerouted within 5-15 business days. For more information on ClickSWITCH, read our full tutorial here.
