Thinking about traveling the world sometime soon? Your Amplify Credit Union debit card is the perfect way to conduct business abroad. In this section, we'll discuss a few things to keep in mind before using your debit card internationally. This includes the international exchange rate, our foreign currency transaction fee, and our ATM reimbursement policy.

Key Takeaways:

  • Funds will be debited from your account in U.S. dollars based on rates set by the government or Mastercard's wholesale exchange rate.
  • A fee of up to 1.00% will be applied to all transactions in a foreign currency. This fee is not eligible for reimbursement.

Can I Use My Debit Card During International Travel?

Amplify Credit Union members can use their debit card during all international travel. Purchases and cash withdrawals made in foreign currencies will be debited from your account in U.S. dollars. The exchange rate used to convert foreign currency transactions to U.S. dollars is typically set by the government. Otherwise, we use a wholesale exchange rate selected by Mastercard.

The rate Mastercard applies for a particular transaction is the rate Mastercard selects for the applicable currency on the day the transaction is processed. This rate may differ from the rate applicable on the date the sale occurred or was posted to your account.

Does Amplify Charge a Foreign Transaction Debit Card Fee?

A conversion fee of up to 1.00% will be charged on all transactions completed in a foreign currency. All costs are calculated based on the transaction amount after we convert it to U.S. dollars. These fees are charged except where excluded. For more information about international fees, please contact our help center at (512) 836-5901 or toll-free at (800) 237-5087.

Will Amplify Reimburse International ATM Fees?

Unfortunately, Amplify's ATM reimbursement program only applies to domestic surcharges. If you'd prefer to avoid fees altogether, you can also locate a participating CO-OP ATM Network credit union near your destination. The CO-OP ATM network is a worldwide network of surcharge-free ATMs for participating credit unions with locations in ten countries. To find a surcharge-free ATM near you, please visit the CO-OP ATM Network website at www.goamplify.com/locations.
